Summer camps and another project

This is the first year that all three of my kids have been old enough to go to summer camp. Carm has always been too young and was the one that was left behind, but not this year. This year is also different in that there are four male second cousins that are in town visiting their grandparents (my brother and SIL) that just happen to be all about Toad’s age - he’s in boy heaven. Toad is lined up to go to golf camp for the next two weeks with “the cousins” and to overnight camp the weekend in between and then to science camp later in the summer. Mil has basketball camp for the next two weeks and drama camp later in the summer. and Carm has art camp this week and then a week later in July. I never went to any summer camps when I was a kid - can you tell?

I’ve read some comments on other blogs about mothers who don’t like summer camps. I love them. They are a chance for the kids to experience different activities and meet new people. There’s still plenty of time to veg around the pool and laze around reading.

Yesterday’s project was making adventure buttons like in the movie UP.

Grape soda bottle caps are hard to come by, but there are plenty of other bottle caps out there that are just as interesting.

I’ve seen people selling these all over the Internet anywhere from $9 to $28! We made our own.

Many happy summer adventures,

Let’s do the Ladybug dance

I found this picture in my photo files. I took it last summer….before I had my fancy schmancy macro lens. Go figure.

Check out the rest of the Macro Monday participants here.

Brownie sliders

I’ve been trying to find some interesting projects for the kids this summer.

This was the project of the day.

It’s a brownie slider with a side of cookie fries! They were fun to make and even more fun to share with friends. I found the tutorial here.

I’m looking for a good science project for next week. Any ideas?

Customer Service

Lately I have been on an Internet ordering frenzy of sorts. I ordered some nice soaps (only one is pictured) and shampoo from Fresh.com. It is really lovely stuff.

I wish you had a smellaputer because this stuff is so delicious you would lick your screen.

There was only one small problem….for some reason Fresh didn’t send the three free samples that they promise with every order. Imagine my disappointment! I shot off an email to Fresh and the person that I was in contact with was a bit reluctant, but she eventually said that if I could remember which items I had checked off when I made the original order she would send them. I can totally understand how it wasn’t going to be cost effective for Fresh to send me the samples when they would have to pay the extra shipping. But…yesterday I received a little surprise in the mail.

Kudos to Fresh for going to the extra effort to make a customer happy! I will definitely order from them again - I can’t wait to try their conditioner.

Fun Monday - On the day that you were born…

Jill from The Adventures of Lil Mouse is the Fun Monday hostess for the mostess this week. She wants to know:

Did anything funny, serious, or sad occur on the same day in history that you were born, a birth, death or a sports record set?

I’m here to tell you that not much worth mentioning has happened on my birthday.

Jerry Ball, Carlton Bailey, and Ernie Jones, all professional American football players, were born on the very day of my birth. Golly, that’s exciting.

In 1791 the American Bill of Rights was signed into law.

In 1890 Sitting Bull was shot dead.

In 1939 Gone with the Wind premiered.

In 1891 Basketball was invented.

That’s about it for the memorable occurrences on December 15. Have fun checking out the rest of the Fun Mondayers.

My new favorite web site is…..

Craigslist. Last week I listed five bicycles on Craigslist and today I am down to one bicycle. I could be down to no bicycles, but I wouldn’t cut my already reasonable price in half. I don’t mind dickering with people, but I am sort of turned off when they start the process by cutting your price in half. Maybe their theory is that we could have worked our way to somewhere in between my price and their price, but there was just too big of a difference. Gah! All that doesn’t matter. This is supposed to be a post about how much I love Craigslist.

The five bicycles I listed ranged in price from $10 to $175 and surprisingly enough the ones that sold the fastest where the most expensive and the middle of the range. The others eventually sold and now I’m left with my most unique listing.

This was THE handiest contraption because it allowed Carm to ride along with us when the whole family went on a bike ride. The best thing about it was that it really did give the rider a boost. I figured out one day that I could coast the entire way around the block if Carm was back there pedaling - like a mini turbo boost. This year Carm got a new bike that she can keep up with the rest of us on a ride so it’s time to liquidate the Afterburner.

I still haven’t written about how much I love Craigslist, but just know that I do. How could I not - it helped me get rid of four bikes. Pretty soon I will be able to move the car back into the garage.

There is nothing like blue and green together

It all started when I was a little kid and I would go to my neighbor girl’s house to play Barbies. She was a few years older than me and had quite a few more Barbies and Barbie clothes to play with. She also had a very mature imagination as I recall, but that is another post entirely. She owned the most beautiful Barbie dress I had ever seen in my life. It was half blue and half green. Since that time I have liked the two colors together. I understand that not everyone shares my zest for blue and green together. That’s ok, it makes me happy.

I saw these two items on the kitchen counter the other day and I thought - ah, the beauty. You can click on the photo if you want to know what the items are.

Carry on.
